Back To School

Shania was born and raised in Belgium, but spent most of her summer holidays in the Philippines while living in Compostela, Cebu. Now that she is an adult, she wants to give back to the community where she was always warmly welcomed.

Our first ever project was run by Shania. With no donations, she carried out her first project with her own money. The less fortunate children in Compostela, Cebu, Philippines received new school supplies for the new academic year in primary and high school.

Fight against Malnutrition

The diets of children in the Philippines are changing. Children are eating fewer fruits and vegetables, and more sugar, salty and fatty products. This time, children in Compostela, Cebu received cereal, milk and fruit.

By changing their eating habits, they can live healthier lives: they can control their weight and get more energy. In fact, balanced diet is the basis of their study success.

The SGV's Godchild

Meet 10-year-old Maurice from Danao Cebu, Philippines. The youngest of five children lost his mum in April and his elderly dad is out of work making it difficult to support all his children.

The 10-year-old is getting great results in school and with our school supplies, he is now more ready than ever to face the new school year.

Moreover, Maurice was born with a cleft lip and thanks to Operation Smile Australia he was given the opportunity to undergo surgery.

Compostela Central School

In October, the SGV team embarked on their fourth project: the Compostela Central School project.

The 43 Year 5 pupils were treated to strawberry yogurt drinks and empanadas, giving them the boost they needed to tackle their science lesson.

The empanadas were sourced from the local store Nanay Eyay's Empanada.
